Maya Encounter

Your encounter with the Maya culture starts with a 1,500 year-old historical journey to the ancestral city of Cobá, an archaeological site hidden deep inside the rain forest of south-eastern Yucatan Peninsula. Climbing the Nohoch Muul temple (the tallest pyramid of the state), you will be able admire the pristine beauty and immeasurable vastness of the surrounding sub-tropical rain forest.

Your Maya Encounter journey then leads you to an authentic Maya village, a self-sufficient Maya community living next to an integral part of the region’s lagoon system. You will walk you through the Maya community’s forest, learning the mysteries of their local fauna and flora.

Your unforgettable off-track adventure tour then begins: exciting zip-line flying over an incredibly beautiful

Cenote, a refreshing swim, rappelling down into another Cenote, and canoe paddling on a lagoon of enormous beauty. And to end it all, a delicious traditional lunch prepared by the women of this Maya community.

7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Pick up and departure for Coba.

9:30 AM
Arrival at Coba. We will enjoy a two-hour guided tour including a visit to Maya temples, the legendary ball game area and the Nohoch Muul Temple (the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan).

11:30 AM
Departure for the Maya Village.

12:00 PM
Arrival at the Maya Village. We will have the opportunity to see how the Mayas live and experience with these wonderful people an adventure in their natural world. Together with the locals we will:

  • Walk through their forest, learning of the local fauna and flora
  • Enjoy a zip-line, flying over an incredibly beautiful Cenote
  • Rappel down into another Cenote
  • Canoe/kayak on a wonderful lagoon
  • Enjoy a refreshing swim
  • Enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the local Maya women

05:30 PM – 6:00 PM
End of the expedition. Return to hotel.

DIVING

The turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea are great for scuba diving to experience underwater life on the Great Maya Reef. The coral formations extending along a large portion of the coast are an unforgettable sight which allows you to explore the largest coral reef in the Northern Hemisphere. The numerous subterranean rivers and “cenotes”, formed by water filtering through the limestone, provide another option for those who love diving. Many locations within the jungle provide rental equipment as well as guides and instructors for cave diving.
